Title: Stupid windows xp ipv6 addresses change!
Post by: dcottle on January 12, 2011, 07:49:50 PM
How do I make my 2 windows XP machines keep their IPv6 addresses?

Typical all my linux servers always get the same ip from radvd :) it's just blasted windows.

Also does windows7 suffer from this also.

Why cant Microsoft adopt the sensible way of using the MAC address to form an IP off the radvd broadcast. They just love to make things difficult!

What's the point of IPv6 if the damn address changes the idea is the machine can be globally reachable.

Any fix as typical windows lacks any IPv6 control in networking in CP.

Thanks!

Turn off IPv6 privacy.

netsh int ipv6 set privacy disabled store=persistent

its a feature..supposed to help mask your ip like the ol' dial up days. You can make linux do it too if you really want
