Title: Ping to LA and Fremont....
Post by: slaxative on August 10, 2008, 02:03:13 PM

PING 66.220.18.42 (66.220.18.42) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 66.220.18.42: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=65.1 ms

PING 64.71.128.82 (64.71.128.82) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 64.71.128.82: icmp_seq=1 ttl=244 time=55.3 ms

10 ms difference between LA and Fremont. I am in the greater Phoenix, AZ area.
Yet Fremont has the better latency?
Not sure if this is my isp's poor routing or what.
Thanks for any help.

Both traceroutes show that you ISP direct trafic to HE to San Jose area.
Then the first has to go back to LA (thats 10ms).

Qwest seems to have a point of presents in LA so maybe some peering could be improved: http://www.qwest.com/legal/peering_na.html

Qwest apparently does not peer in LA at laiix, which is where HE peers with 44 other networks (as of a March 4, 2008 count).
