Title: Tunnel working fine then stopped passing traffic
Post by: LVNeptune on April 14, 2015, 10:10:50 AM
The tunnel was/is active. I can ping my tunnel's gateway aka Server IPv6 address. The response time is between 22-30ms which is expected.

If I run a Tracert it doesn't get passed the gateway.

Tracing route to google.com [2607:f8b0:4007:803::1001]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    32 ms    24 ms    25 ms  LVNeptune-1.tunnel.tserv15.lax1.ipv6.he.net [200
1:470:c:2d8::1]
  2     *        *        *     Request timed out.

This leads me to believe there is a service outage.

Yeah, even on native HE, I can't reach the TSERV side of the tunnel. Email ipv6@he.net to open a trouble ticket.

Surprised I noticed this before anyone TBH.

EDIT: Went ahead and emailed them. Thanks.

So the tunnel is active however it looks like he.net is now blocking IRC traffic (??) I can't get any connection over standard IRC ports such as 6667 which are working on native IPv6 fine. Telnet to them and the connection never establishes. I went ahead and tried a few IRC servers that happened to use alternate ports such as 9999 and they actually connect fine through the tunnel. I submitted a ticket but maybe someone else here can test as well?

IRC has been getting blocked for years. Unless you had a really old tunnel that predates the filtering, you need to get Sage level of the Certification program, and then email HE to get it unblocked.

This specific tunnel is over a year old but never had any issues with any previous tunnels either. I am looking at some really old threads from 2011 and I see it was blocked. I am very proficient with IPv4 would I be able to toss you a message to unblock it, assuming it is blocked? It's just weird that this happened out of the blue.

Hey thanks. I'm a Sage now :) Unblocked myself too. Appreciate the help.

Looks like routes are down again today. As of 7:24 PM PST I can only access my gateway. There was about 30 seconds where I was able to ping google.com then it went away again.
