I'm trying to move my HE tunnel to my ASUS RT-AC66U but it isn't working.  I followed the directions on this post (https://forums.he.net/index.php?topic=2680.0) but am unsuccessful and would like to check my settings.  In particular, I want to make sure that the prefixes are right and the LAN ipv6 address seems funny to me.

Asus setting                  Tunnelbroker details                  Comment
Connection type           "Tunnel 6in4"
Server IPv4                   209.51.161.14                              My tunnelbroker endpoint
Client IPv6 Address       2001:470:1f06:112e::2               From my tunnel configuration
IPv6 Prefix Length        "64"
Tunnel MTU                   "0"
Tunnel TTL                    "255"
LAN IPv6 Prefix              2001:470:1f06:112e
LAN Prefix Length         "64"
LAN IPv6 Address           ::5847:b97f:f00:0:0:1                  This seems wrong to me, but I don't have the ability to change it.
IPv6 DNS Server 1          2620:0:ccc::2
Enable RA                        Enabled

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Your ipv6 lan prefix is incorrect...it should not be the same as your tunnel prefix

jlightfoot

Thanks, how do I determine what it should be?

cholzhauer

Under your tunnel details page there should be a listing of LAN IPv6 range and Tunnel IPv6 range...same place you request a /48

jlightfoot

Here's what the HE tunnel configuration page shows:

IPv6 Tunnel Endpoints:
Server IPv4 Address:209.51.161.14
Server IPv6 Address:2001:470:1f06:112e::1/64
Client IPv4 Address:x.x.x.x
Client IPv6 Address:2001:470:1f06:112e::2/64

Routed IPv6 Prefixes:
Routed /64:2001:470:1f07:112e::/64
Routed /48:Assign /48

I don't see two separate prefixes, everything looks the same.

broquea

QuoteServer IPv6 Address:2001:470:1f06:112e::1/64
QuoteRouted /64:2001:470:1f07:112e::/64
Even the 1f07 chunk of the prefix is BOLDED for people in the broker interface.

Thanks, tried fixing the prefix but haven't made any progress.  I don't seem to be getting an ipv6 address from the RA.

Ifconfig on my router shows:

v6in4    Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4
           inet6 addr: 2001:470:1f06:112e::2/64 Scope:Global
           inet6 addr: fe80::60ed:fba8/128 Scope:Link
           UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP  MTU:1480  Metric:1
           RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
           TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
           collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
           RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

Actually, I've made progress.  When I do a traceroute to ipv6.google.com from the router I get a valid response over ipv6:

# traceroute ipv6.google.com
traceroute to ipv6.google.com (2607:f8b0:4006:809::1004), 30 hops max, 16 byte packets
whfsdude-1.tunnel.tserv4.nyc4.ipv6.he.net (2001:470:1f06:112e::1)  34.069 ms  34.854 ms  34.933 ms
ge3-8.core1.nyc4.he.net (2001:470:0:5d::1)  29.887 ms  32.888 ms  39.861 ms
3  2001:4860:1:1:0:1b1b:0:11 (2001:4860:1:1:0:1b1b:0:11)  40.072 ms  32.433 ms  32.764 ms
4  2001:4860::1:0:755 (2001:4860::1:0:755)  34.499 ms  42.872 ms  39.838 ms
5  2001:4860:0:1::7a7 (2001:4860:0:1::7a7)  32.099 ms  32.489 ms  39.863 ms
6  2607:f8b0:4006:809::1d (2607:f8b0:4006:809::1d)  32.740 ms  32.356 ms  32.767 ms

But I can only do that from my router, not from a client on my network.   Now it seems like the RA function isn't giving my clients an ipv6 address.

jlightfoot

Still stuck.

I've found that if I switch the connection type to 6rd, my clients get a global ipv6 address, but I can't get to the Internet via ipv6.  The other thing I think is strange is that my ipconfig shows DHCPv6 information, I'm not sure where that came from.

Finally got it.

I used 6in4.  My problem was that the LAN ipv6 prefix needed to end in :: .  Now the LAN ipv6 address is right and all is working.  Thanks for the help.
