Title: L2TP/IPSEC and IPv6
Post by: vobelic on March 14, 2012, 03:50:27 PM
Hi,

To sum it up, with a client using a L2TP/IPSEC tunnel and obtaining v4/v6 from it, windows aren't sending AAAA requests.

I have a HEnet tunnel at my network that is behind a mikrotik router and it's fully IPv6 capable.
I tried to connect a W7 client remotely to my network via L2TP/IPSEC tunnel.
The connectivity is ok and I get both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses on the PPP adapter from the router.
On the windows client I can ping and nslookup ipv6 addresses and hostnames.

The problem are web browsers.
None of them (FF, IE, Chrome) request AAAA records, only A.
Basically only if the app explicitly requests AAAA I get the ipv6 resolved.

I suspect it's a similar story how DNS system in windows doesn't ask for AAAA records if it only has teredo connectivity?

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup?

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance!
