Title: Ipv6 address
Post by: floppyjoe on January 07, 2020, 11:20:51 PM
Hi, I am wondering if I need to disable privacy extensions on my Linux host in order to pull a stable ipv6 address that does not change every day for a server that I run? I realize this will need to be changed when my dynamic ipv4 ip address changes. I have a 6in4 tunnel on my router.

Yes, if you want to keep the same address, disable privacy extensions.

However, you should have two addresses, one that changes and one that stays the same.

Would that be without privacy extensions disabled? There are three options 1. Disabled 2.Enabled prefer public address 3. Enabled prefer temporary address.

Which one would give you two addresses with one that does not change?
Quote.../64 scope global dynamic mngtmpaddr noprefixroute
Is this the one that does not change?

I'm saying that right now, without any changes, you should have two public IPv6 addresses assigned to an Interface if you're using RA.

It's been a long time since I used IPv6 on Linux, sorry I can't tell you for sure which one will stay.  Worst case, take a screenshot and compare it to what you see the next day, that should tell you which addresses change.

The one address that contains ...ff:fe... is the permanent address.
