The UNIX design philosophy states that a given component is to do one thing and do it well.  There is already functionality in the Linux kernel that handles NAT44 and it's quite mature.  Tayga was designed the way it was on purpose.

As far as my setup, everything that handles network routing runs on a DreamPlug.  So my setup is coax going into a Comcast DOCSIS modem that goes via CAT5 to a DreamPlug that then goes to a simple switch.
