IPv6 works temporarily, but drops off randomly

I'm on Windows Server 2008 R2 (using it like Windows 7 though). We recently switched from one DSL provider to another, and my tunnel hasn't been working properly since. I've got my laptop in a DMZ, and the tunnel works for a while, but it stops working randomly.

Applicable connections are the WLAN and IP6Tunnel. IPv6 works for a random amount of time, and then it completely stops working. My IPv4 address doesn't change [unless we restart our modem]. I can't use anything over IPv6, not http, IRC or even ping. Anybody have any ideas?

cholzhauer

how are you assigning addresses?  there isnt a public address on your wireless adapter, so if you had assigned one, its now gone, and that could be the reason stuff stops working

demize95

IPv4 address is reserved with DHCP reservation, I was in a DMZ (but now I'm not, since our router forwards Protocol 41 ^^). Our router didn't appear to be in a DMZ, it is now so that might change things. I just got myself set back up with the tunnel, so we'll see how things go :p

cholzhauer

Sorry, I should have clarified...I meant how were you assigning IPv6 addresses

demize95

I'm assigning the address with a netsh ipv6 tunnel, pretty much just copying the example configuration and changing the needed values.

cholzhauer

I think one of the commands went awry somewhere

Ok, let's remove the entire tunnel.   The 2001 address you have on your tunnel shouldn't be there.  Assuming that's an address out of your routed /64, that needs to be assigned to your LAN connection.  The address assigned to your IP6Tunnel adapter should end in a ::2.

If you paste the commands from the website I can help further

I don't have the commands offhand to remove the tunnel adapter, but I know they're in the forum somewhere

netsh interface teredo set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 add v6v4tunnel IP6Tunnel 174.138.207.231 216.66.38.58
netsh interface ipv6 add address IP6Tunnel 2001:470:1c:312::2
netsh interface ipv6 add route ::/0 IP6Tunnel 2001:470:1c:312::1

That's what it says on the site. I modified it to look like this:

netsh interface teredo set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 add v6v4tunnel IP6Tunnel 192.168.1.109 216.66.38.58
netsh interface ipv6 add address IP6Tunnel 2001:470:b11d:cafe:bad:c0f:fee:0
netsh interface ipv6 add route ::/0 IP6Tunnel 2001:470:b11d:cafe:bad:c0f:fee:1

(2001:470:b11d is my routed /48)

It worked perfectly for me when we were on our old ISP, it was when we switched to our new ISP that it started to stop working randomly. It has been working perfectly since my last post though, so it's possible something I did to our router/modem settings fixed it.

cholzhauer

I'm surprised it ever worked.

Clear out what you have and try this

netsh interface teredo set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 add v6v4tunnel IP6Tunnel 192.168.1.109 216.66.38.58
netsh interface ipv6 add address IP6Tunnel 2001:470:1c:312::2
netsh interface ipv6 add route ::/0 IP6Tunnel 2001:470:1c:312::1

This assumes your NAT IP address is still 192.168.1.109.
