Good day.

I am wondering if  you are in the US and performing whois, are you using whois.arin.net?
I am not able to get the correct information from whois.arin.net

example
whois  -  2001:12c0:0:aaaa:200:154:56:96 -h whois.arin.net

apparently their format has changed and the output doesn't work on he.nets website.

any alternative host??  '

Thanks

cholzhauer

That particular IP is assigned through LANIC

[carl@mars ~]$ whois -h whois.arin.net 2001:12c0:0:aaaa:200:154:56:96

Hmmm.   ::)

That's a different twist.

The problem I am having is submitting whois entries on a daily basis.  All fail.
I submitted  yours as an example and it too failed.

Apparently whois.arin.net has changed their format according to He.net and their answers
won't pass the test.

Hmm..

Any other suggestions??

Thanks

Thanks much..

I just finished my 100 daily whois tests and everything was still normal a few days ago.

Here is how Hurricane Electric's IPv6 block looks now:

Until someone comes up with a clever solution or HE changes their whois parser to accept the new format I suggest you submit whois results from the other registries.

The response I get from the other registries is that the registy information is not found.

I just submitted whois 2001:470::1

and I got It looks like you submitted an invalid whois query!

Hmm.  any suggestions.

I also don't think the colleges which I have tried are handling IPv6.

example umn.edu  University of Minnisota

No matches were found

whois  - 2001:4860:4001:803::1014 -h umn.edu

No matches were found.

What are you doing to access the other registries ?
The whois client I'm using automatically selects the appropriate registry to fetch the information from. The only thing I give as argument is the IPv6 address that I do want information about.

First I use dig to get the IPv6 address for the IPv6 domain I want to use (which takes care of the daily dig test too):

dig stupid.domain.name AAAA

; <<>> DiG 9.7.3-P1 <<>> stupid.domain.name AAAA
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 62671
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;stupid.domain.name.            IN      AAAA

;; ANSWER SECTION:
stupid.domain.name.     720     IN      AAAA    2a02:80:3ffe::39

;; Query time: 20 msec
;; SERVER: 2001:470:20::2#53(2001:470:20::2)
;; WHEN: Sun Jul 10 08:31:45 2011
;; MSG SIZE  rcvd: 64

Then I use the IPv6 address for the whois:

whois 2a02:80:3ffe::39
